Guiding Light

(Song 2 von 10)

Englischer Text:

Guiding Light

A hearth of love, your fire burns
Of passion great and strong
An exhausted flame no monies worth
And no time as long

Though pale of ice temp they cast
Or dice of wind prevail
No river’s flow nor mountain’s air
Can destroy those fiery tails

In darkest night when sun is down
And light is scarcely known
Your warmth and gracious flare is cast
To make all darkness home

We may by day in summers heat
Forget all thoughts of right
But we will seek what we have lost
Our mothers guiding light

I count the cost of time I’ve lost
Through wandering in the dark
When demons close and whisper those
Temptations bare and stark

They trust in me to lose my will
And crave the light of day
They offer me both song and verse
To turn the other way

But yonder burns a torch that has
No flicker, wax nor wane
A beacon from the highest hill
That beckons home again

Though twisted are the paths
And many veils obscure my sight
I will seek what lives in me
My mothers guiding light

A hearth of love, your fire burns
Of passion great and strong
An exhausted flame no monies worth
And no time as long

Though pale of ice temp they cast
Or dice of wind prevail
No river’s flow nor mountain’s air
Can destroy those fiery tails

In darkest night when sun is down
And light is scarcely known
Your warmth and gracious flare is cast
To make all darkness home

We may by day in summers heat
Forget all thoughts of right
But we will seek what we have lost

When I’m all at sea
You’re shining out to me
When I’m all alone
You guide me home
You guide me home

When I’m all at sea
You’re shining out to me
When I’m all alone
You guide me home
You guide me home

An exhausted flame no monies worth

The flame is exhausted (it’s about to run out). 'No monies worth' means it should not be measured, therefore it is priceless - without conventional value.

And no time as long

This means it can’t be measured by time either.
(und auch nicht mit Zeit)

Though pale of ice temp they cast

Even if ice and water are thrown at the flame

Or dice of wind prevail

Or there is a huge gust of wind
(oder eine starke Windböe aufkommt)

No river’s flow nor mountain’s air

Not even a river flowed on to it or the icy wind from the top of a Mountain blew on to it
(Nicht einmal ein Fluss oder eisiger Bergwind)

Can destroy those fiery tails

The fire would not be put out
(können die Flamme - die feurigen Schweife - löschen)

They offer me both song and verse

‘Song and verse’ is a phrase that means the complete understanding of something or something that is very persuasive because it makes perfect sense – ‘the full picture’ is pretty much the same thing.
(ein Ausdruck für das vollkommene Ganze)

When I’m all at sea
